Botox

Botox & Wrinkle Relaxers in South Jersey and Philadelphia

The lines you make when you frown, squint or raise your eyebrows can leave you looking stressed or older than you feel, even on a good day. Botox, Xeomin and Dysport relax the muscles behind those lines so they soften, and Dr. Chris Bashian or Rachel Fey, PA does every treatment in your own home across South Jersey and the Philadelphia area.

How It Works

How Wrinkle Relaxers Work

Some wrinkles are there because the skin has lost structure. Others are there because a muscle underneath keeps folding the skin the same way, thousands of times a day. Wrinkle relaxers treat the second kind. A small amount of purified protein is injected into the muscle, the muscle relaxes, and the skin over it stops creasing. The line softens over the next one to two weeks and stays softer for three to four months.

Botox, Xeomin and Dysport are three brands of the same type of medication. Which one is right for you depends on the area, your history, and what you're hoping to see.

Also Treated

Other Areas We Treat

These areas don't get their own page, but you can ask about any of them when you book.

Bunny Lines.

The small diagonal lines that appear on the sides of your nose when you scrunch it or laugh hard. Botox on each side softens them.

Lip Lines.

The fine vertical lines above the upper lip, sometimes called smoker's lines even though plenty of people who've never smoked have them. Small doses relax the muscle that purses the lips, which softens the lines without affecting how you talk or drink.

Chin Dimpling.

When the chin looks pebbled or textured, especially when you talk or purse your lips, the muscle in the chin is overworking. Relaxing it smooths the surface.

Downturned Mouth.

The muscles that pull the corners of the mouth down can be relaxed slightly so the corners rest in a more neutral position. This is a subtle change, and often pairs well with filler for marionette lines.

Neck Bands.

The vertical cords that stand out on the front of the neck, especially when you clench or talk. Relaxing the platysma muscle softens them.

What to Expect

Your appointment happens wherever you're comfortable at home. Dr. Bashian or Rachel Fey, PA will go over your goals, look at how your face moves, and confirm the plan and the price with you. There's no numbing needed, and most people go right back to their day. Skip strenuous exercise and lying flat for about four hours, and don't rub the area that evening.

You'll start to see the change in three to five days, with the full result at about two weeks. Results last three to four months for most people. If it's your first time, we'll check in at the two-week mark to see how you're settling.

Who It's For

Wrinkle relaxers work for adults who have lines that show when they make an expression, and increasingly for lines that have started to stay put at rest. They also work preventively, for people in their late twenties and thirties who want to keep lines from setting in.

They are not right for everyone. We don't treat anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding, who has certain neuromuscular conditions, or who has an active skin infection near the treatment area. Dr. Bashian or Rachel Fey, PA will go over your history before treating you.

Risks and Side Effects

The most common side effects are mild and short-lived: a small bruise, some redness or tenderness at the injection points, or a mild headache the first day. Less commonly, the medication can affect a nearby muscle and cause a temporary heaviness of the eyebrow or eyelid. This wears off on its own, usually within a few weeks. Serious reactions are rare. We'll go over the full list with you before your treatment, and you'll have a direct line to us afterward if anything concerns you. Individual results vary.
